How the SGIP Program Works

The Self-Generation Incentive Program offers solar battery rebates for residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural customers of: 

• PG&E 
• SoCal Gas 
• SCE
• SDG&E

The SGIP rebates can drastically cut the cost of battery storage and can be claimed with or without a solar energy system. 

Rebate amounts range from $150-$1,000 per kWh of battery storage installed, are dependent on your electricity provider, and work on a tiered structure—meaning larger rebates for those who apply sooner. SGIP rebates are paid as reimbursements after solar battery backup installation.

Low-Income & High-Risk Fire Areas Qualify For Maximum Rebates

As part of the SGIP updates made in 2020, CPUC created a new segment of the program designed to help give vulnerable communities more access to crucial energy storage technologies. Known as the Equity Resilience Budget, this extension of SGIP offers the maximum rebate of $1,000 per kWh for those that meet the following criteria:

• Considered a low-income customer
• Live in a Tier 3 or Tier 4 fire risk area
• Live in an area that has experienced 2 or more Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events
• Be a critical facility that services disadvantaged communities, high-risk fire areas, or PSPS-affected areas
