Commercial Solar Panels Qualify for Incentives Too!

One of the best things about going solar with your business is that panels and battery storage are eligible for commercial solar incentives. There are several tax credits and rebates available in 2024 for commercial solar installations, including:

• Solar Tax Credit – Known as the Investment Tax Credit, or ITC, the solar tax credit reduces your business’ tax liability by 30% of the total cost of installation. Nonprofits and other tax-exempt organizations are also eligible for the solar tax credit with a direct-pay option. 
• Production Tax Credit – The PTC is a recurring tax credit that’s based on the amount of electricity your solar panels produce. Since most businesses can only claim either the ITC or PTC (not both), the PTC is a good choice for larger solar arrays. 
• MACRS Depreciation – MACRS is another business tax deduction that offers a way to recoup some of the cost of solar installations through a modified depreciation over a 5-year period. 

Net Metering – Businesses can sell any excess electricity back to their participating utility company for a credit on future electricity bills. These credits can be used for times when your panels may not be producing, like at night or on cloudy days.
